On July 26th, a great tragedy occurred as four yogis of the Drukpa order suffered a mysterious and fatal accident while driving from Nubra to Leh to attend the enthronement of His Eminence Stakna Rinpoche. Yogi Jigme Phuntsok Namgyal from Sikkim died on site, while Yogi Jigme Rigzin Gyatso of Ladakh was admitted to the local hospital for immediate surgery and treatment. He was airlifted to Delhi a few days later when conditions improved, and is now preparing for more operations as he remains in critical condition. Yogi Jigme Chophel and Yogi Jigme Nawang Gyatso have just arrived in Delhi for urgent medical treatment. This traumatic news comes before an event when we should be celebrating with positive signs in tow. Sadly, this has turned all our hearts and prayers towards the survival of these precious yogis.

Thirty-two year old Yogi Jigme Phuntsok Namgyal maintained in the meditative state (known as thugdam) for several days after the fatal accident, and his cremation was met with signs associated with a great yogi, including a rainbow that formed in the clear sky, and a light ‘snowfall of flowers’ that suddenly came down. All of the yogis involved with the accident had completed intensive retreats, and the surviving will be going into life-long retreat to further serve. #Drukpa is known as a lineage of yogis, and for a thousand years these treasured and celebrated meditators have mastered highly intensive spiritual practices in the hopes of benefiting all beings.
